d4diddy, Sandia & SSI (Wade & Harold) collaborated.

You've convinced me you suspected but did not know, until now. You are welcome!!

d4diddy, for some time you have indicated SSI work seems to parallel Sandia work in certain areas. Thank you for doing so. Had you not typed Sandia so many times, I may have missed the opportunity to ask YOUR tough questions directly, eye-to-eye with SSI folk (now CDEX team members).

Something like.... "I can only discuss and comment on work that is PRIOR to CDEX."

<yet another frustrated pause by me>

"Okay. A number of people indicate similarity in Sandia's works in comparision with SSI. I see plenty of fluorescence work with each, but is there ANY direct connection... do System Specialists Inc works have ANYTHING to do with Sandia works?"

<a grin prior to responce>

Well.... ONE reason might be the fact that SSI collaborated with SANDIA in the past via M3 Engineering's prime contract, whereby SSI was a major subcontractor.

This may not be 100%, but VERY CLOSE....

"Specifically, the entire system, called "CALIOPE" consisted of two over-the-road trailers equipped with 1-meter lightweight fixed Cassegrain telescope systems, steerable flat mirrors, laser beam expanders, active tracking control systems, and detector modules."

<some back and forth here over coffee>

Both systems were built under prime contract with M3 Engineering, Inc. of Tucson (provided structural engineering services, financing, and paper compliance) with major subcontractor System Specialists, Inc. Diddy, I think that is clearly our Wade & Harold ! Did you know these devices were constructed at the SSI facility on E. 47th Street in Tucson??!!

All optical alignment [diddy, this is one of Wade's many areas of expertise] and calibration were done at that 47th st facility. Well diddy, how cool is THAT? I think it is no small wonder that applications are similar, since SSI designed and built equipment used by SANDIA !! Thank you again d4diddy!!

By the way, contracts ARE a matter of public record, and the pictures, designs, schematics, and contract sign-offs reflect and verify the SSI & Sandia collaboration. How cool is that d4diddy!!??

SSI even used Sandia researchers ( Mr. H & Dr. M ) in their early work to assist in their data reduction schemes, none of which (it seems) involved neural networks or multivariate algorithms -- on which Sandia applied for patents. Read that one again d4diddy!

SSI was intimately related to all the Sandia design, building, and testing programs -- it was a collaboration/contract relationship. I asked and subsequently learned that this benefited both groups significantly. It seems Sandia did not commercialize the work, so Sandia allowed SSI to do JUST THAT while they went off to different things.

d4diddy, I've learned that both CALIOPE trailers with telescopes are available on the surplus market if you, or anyone here, is interested.

Thank you again d4diddy - I feel even better about my investment knowing this portion of the past works of Dr. Poteet and co. I really did think you must have discovered this, but now I think not, so here 'tis. WOW!
