dilleet, I like matching wits and exchanging mental barbs as much as (or maybe even more than) the next person. But you have to bring more wit to the table than that if you want to keep my interest. Otherwise, I'm afraid I might have to sign you and a certain NYC spinster up for a mutual Frequent Flyers' Program. Invite the French lover over for a menage a trois. Hang out. Do lunch with Jean-Louis. That sort of thing.

Meanwhile, here's Pat Riley on the Spurs and Pistons:

"They have gotten to a point where the personalities have absolutely suppressed all individual ego to be part of something they can really believe in," Riley said. "They're for real. Whether they'll be that at the end of the year, whether or not two or three other teams can grow into the same kind of chemistry and talent they have remains to be seen."

It goes without saying that Pat Riley is hardly your hometown booster when it comes to San Antonio.

Amazingly enough I stumbled across that quote in the NY Times for Dec. 25. I have no idea how it got in my driveway, but someone has been leaving it there on a daily basis for more than ten, fifteen years now. I'll have to delve deeper into exactly how the East Coast MSM have been able to get past my local press embargo. (The San Antonio Enquirer really hates it when that happens.)

Now if you don't want to give the SA Spurs their due or credit or cut them any slack simply because Bootz lives in the same city, then just say so. I promise not to take offense.

Truth is, the Spurs are a vastly overrated bunch of has-beens who have gotten way too much press coverage from the San Francisco and New York Enquirer respectively. Why they devote so many inches to this mid-market team in the middle of nowhere and so far removed from their base audiences I will never personally fathom.

Would somebody please enlighten me?
