Dan3, thanks for the post. It's old fact, but anyway, I think anyone will agree that P4 (and Itanium too) requres wast manufacturing resources, because it's design needs a lot of cache. That does not discount its power, as with such cache P4 is faster than Athlon. I'm not sure that adding more cache to Athlon can help it to beat P4, as it's not that much memory hog. So, the manufacturing requirements are so big, that if you imagine that Intel and AMD will flip-flop chips, i.e. AMD starts making P4's and Intel will switch to Athlons, AMD will die with quick and spectacular death.
