Stage 2 MU will set the stage for accountable care, Mostashari says

The fee-for-service model is nearing its end as the industry advances efforts to move to accountable care organizations and other pay-for-performance models, National HIT Coordinator Dr. Farzad Mostashari said during a Health IT Policy Committee meeting. The second stage of EHR meaningful use will pave the way for a true health care overhaul that values accountability more than volume, he said, adding, "As we turn now to the needs of the situation, it's going to be more around coordination of care and patient engagement."
