What's this mean than??? I'm confused

"Not long ago, only large entities could afford to sponsor large events as a way of building goodwill and boosting revenue.

Funny that article was talking about events like softball events, LOL, now times that by 1000 with something to the scale of the Messi event!

It will pay dividends, maybe not today, but definitely "tomorrow"!
