I can hardly believe what I just found in my continuing DD and search for info. Believe it or not, I have found a Ph.D. thesis (by STEPHAN JAY BLESS) from MIT that was written in June 1970. The title of this thesis is:
THE EFFECT OF MAGNETIC PINCH PRESSURE ON BORON NITRIDE, CADMIUM SULFIDE, GRAPHITE, SILICA GLASS, AND SOME OTHER MATERIALS
Discussion of his experiments with graphite begin on page 80 of the thesis. There is a Figure of his graphite container on page 83. Strangely, page 84 is "missing". Starting on page 85 he presents x-ray diffraction data, from which he concludes there is a high probability that he produced diamond from graphite in his magnetic pinch device!!
