Berkshire Hathaway Inc BRKB -0.66% . unit Geico said Bill Roberts has been named president and chief operating officer, while Tony Nicely will continue as chairman and chief executive of the third-largest car insurer in the U.S.
Mr. Roberts "will take on a greater role in managing Geico's day-to-day operations," said Mr. Nicely, who had until recently also held the title of president.
"I will continue to be very actively involved in the overall management of the company," he added.
Mr. Roberts joined Geico in 1984 and had been executive vice president of the company since 2000 with responsibility for marketing and advertising, information systems, telecommunications and the Internet business unit, among other things. He has also been the vice president of marketing and assistant vice president for underwriting in Geico's regional office in Macon, Ga., during his time with the company.
