I don't see your point about the i7 920 to i7 2600K comparison, all the Tocks get the process advantage.

The Q6600 was on 65nm
The i7 920 on 45nm
The i7 2600K on 32nm
The i7 4770K on 22nm

As for desktop users looking for "big" performance, for the last 4+ years, we were able to get it for sub $400 and now you are suggesting we have to spend a lot more and get lower single core performance, with better multicore performance.

Not very inspiring.
