Whether it's insulting or not is subjective. Someone wants to claim that people are rejecting Windows 8 because they are intelligent. That was a reactive response that not only implied that disagreers were not intelligent (which is in itself insulting), but it also opened up a possibility that he was mistaking intelligence for ego. While that might be taken as an insult, if it's the truth then it's an appropriate response, and if it's false, then he should be able to explain what he meant by his initial statement.
