True story from last week: My coworker/friend and his wife have been searching for a home. Every time one they liked came up, they were too late. Finally one was listed at 4pm. Their realtor called them at 4:05. He left work, picked up his wife and they were at the house by 6pm. There were already 5 other buyers at the house. At 8pm they put an offer of $6,000 above the asking price. The next morning their realtor called them and said there were 22 offers put in and they had no idea where theirs ranked. The seller said all offers had to be in by noon. So they upped the offer to $17,000 above asking price. At 1pm they were notified they did not get it.

All this in less than 24 hours.
