As far as GoDaddy is concerned. I wouldn't use them for anything but domain registration.
I have 19 domains registered, only 1 with GoDaddy (only because I have been too lazy to transfer it elsewhere). They are ok, and fairly inexpensive. You are right, they only do basic website stuff. No offense to them, But I wouldn't use them for hosting or design.
