Wade: re UVE - I disagree. If the newspaper reports are accurate, then this reflects very poorly on the company and puts them way below average. This is not the sort of thing one reads about very often. It's very petty of them to be cancelling policies for trivial reasons to avoid paying claims despite big profits, hefty rate increases and quiet hurricane seasons. They're lucky they weren't fined more, even though according to one article it was one of the largest fines ever of a property insurer.
I'm disgusted with their abuses of customers especially in view of the absence of hurricanes hitting Florida and the big 14% rate increases they've benefited from in each of the past 2 years. Very confiscatory.
My own view of the company has been significantly diminished.
