1998 QE2 Flyby Today. Are we OK? Brian Williams Suggests: 'Stock Up on Canned Goods'

Friday, May 31, 2013

Today asteroid 1998 QE2 will pass within 3.2 million miles of Earth, and NASA doesn't expect that it will be drawn by our gravity into what is known as a 'following orbit' which would bring it into eventual collision with our planet. However, NBC News anchor Brian Williams is not so sure, and is suggesting that we 'stock up on canned goods.' This is because of the extremely unlikely possibility that it will break up as it is tugged by Earth's gravity. However, all of the astronomical data on it suggests that it is a two mile wide solid piece of rock and will not break up. If it does, and showers Earth with debris, canned goods won't matter much in any case--unless, of course, you have a deep cave or mine handy, and can take them down with you. Don't forget the camp stove!

We need to get to those mines
