Carbiz, once a promising roll-up play in the "buy here, pay here" auto industry, announced in February that it had ceased operations, and that all its assets have been turned over to two lenders on the hook for $28 million in debt.

In mid-January, lenders Dealer Services Corp. and Wells Fargo issued default notices to the Manatee County-based Carbiz, which moved to the region in 2004 from Toronto and switched its stock to the U.S. over-the-counter market as well
