Yeah that is not true. We have up to 15 wells on some pads, and 1 pad is not even an acre. The reasons for this is simple.

There are several pockets of gas/oil in the earth and they are all at different depths. You can only drill and extract 1 pocket with one well. So if there are multiple pockets you need multiple wells. Cause after a well has been drilled casing is then put into the hole for the oil/gas to flow to the surface.
