I understand now...
but I do not believe that article correctly represents the 65nm production process, but represents theoretical transistors the two companies believe they can build using 65nm process. Subtle, but important difference.
Even if we do accept that data as representing the production process we find that INTC actually has an advantage. If we build a "hypothetical" inverter with each process and set-up a requirement to drive 2mA each direction we find:
INTC NMOS=1.23u PMOS=2.20u... total gate required is 3.43u
AMD NMOS=1.57 PMOS=1.94 ... total gate required is 3.52
Intel advantage is about 2.5%
That said, I still do not believe they represent the production 65nm process.
