EP, right, the asynchronous Opteron remote memory protocol is more challenging than shared bus, but is also has a potential of improvements. At the same time local memory is accessed extremely fast, though supported memory standard will be always a step behind.

The crc vs. ecc in aHT is ok. Remember, ecc is used to control the memory bus, where bits are coming from memory chips, where erros are possible. I'm sure Opteron supports ecc in its memory controller.

aHT is used in the traffic between two cpu after it passed ecc control. This is more similar to the traffic between northbridge and cpu. There is no ecc there either.
