Now we know why Hollywood is doing all it can to appeal to Chinese movie goers. Buzzfeed reports that China is expected to become the world's number one box office market by 2020.
We're already seeing signs that Hollywood is taking the Chinese market very seriously. Famous filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino are pruning their product to appease Chinese censors. Blockbusters like Iron Man 3 are shooting extra sequences featuring Chinese actors to engage that country's audience. The upcoming World War Z departed from the source material, a book written by Max Brooks, to ensure the film's zombie outbreak did not start in China.
More films will not only feature Chinese-friendly material but will be funded at least partly by Chinese patrons. Expect many more changes in Hollywood product geared to keeping the industry's Chinese relationships healthy--with the films themselves getting nips and tucks along the way.
