Very funny yet poignant, Larry...

I lived with a Navy man (Vietnam Vet... 2 tours... total of 26 months from the time he was 17 to 19... did the Marine time)... left its mark. But that's another story.

He might beg to differ on the Coast Guard being military... <ggg>

I remember 2 of his jokes...

Better to have a sister in a cathouse,
Than a brother in the Coast Guard.

Why do you have to be over 6' tall to join the Coast Guard?
So if the boat sinks, you can walk to shore.

BTW... my first bartending job (circa 1978) was day bartender in the CPO Club on Governor's Island... the then Coast Guard base in the mouth of the East River... Made some great friends among the Coasties and their families... A couple of them rebuilt a '70 Skylark for me, sold it to me for $235... got five years out of it. Gave me a pass for it so I could drive on and off the ferry to visit after I quit the bartending job.
