There are other sources of protein in non meat foods. Black Beans for 1 example is Huge in protein. I use to give that to our dogs when I was cooking their foods, along with a lot of Veggies, and Brown rice.

Cancer if it's in a dog or Human, many of the treatments are exactly the same. Surgery's, Chemo, Radiation, Drug therapy's.
