For me to consider early retirement, I'd have to have 1 million dollars (post-tax) so that I could throw that into an account with a 4% or higher interest rate. I could then live off of the interest. $40k or more per year (pre-tax) is a good amount. And heck, if you want a little more play money, keep a part time job!
