I remember that and also remember that Dr. Blair had discovered a secret wavelength inside the X-ray part of the spectrum that he used, which would detect gaseous fumes rising from a buried landmine through the soil. From as far as 30 feet!!!!
So far as I have ever heard, though, he never took that ELF thing into a live mine field himself. But he did have a sandbox, in which he would bury some explosive, and shine his elf on it. and show where in the sandbox his pinch of explosive was buried. Also some plastic buckets, filled with sand one with the explosive material, and the ELF would pick it out from the other buckets.
Got some Professor or something to witness it, and the PROF wrote a white paper on it...do not recall the Profs name though. MAYBE kin to GUDE OLE JIM???LOL!!
CDEX shifted away from the Xray to Near UV...and gave up on ELF.
