Actually so was Johnson in fact he was trying to get out while escalating the war.

I have heard claims Kennedy wanted us out but that contradicts his flowery public rhetoric about vietnam being the crack in the dyke in the free world blah blah blah. Its hard to imagine that Kennedy would have been pulling out as South Vietnam was being overrun all the while claiming vietnam was of crucial importance.

Besides if its all about the military industrial complex one must wonder why they didn't whack Ike who dropped defense spending only to have it go up as soon as Kennedy hit office. They also left LBJ alone for his first budget which dropped defense spending by almost 10%.
