One of the signs of kidney failure is very foul breath, and the animal will still eat when they are in kidney failure, up until just before the end. Brandy refused to even swallow water just before the end. My remaining two cats are both deaf, and like deaf people, they don't just meow anymore, they bellow -- enough to wake the dead! I'm surprised my neighbors haven't complained. The mother of the one who died today has pretty bad cataracts, too, but she can still see well enough to get around. Don't think she is long for this world, either, but maybe she'll have another year or so, if we're lucky.
