TAIPEI --Taiwanese handset maker HTC Corp. (2498.TW) scored a victory against Nokia Corp. (NOK) Tuesday after a German district court dismissed a complaint by the Finnish company that HTC had infringed on one of its patents.
HTC said Wednesday that it believes Nokia's patent is invalid and it will continue with the invalidity actions pending before the German Federal Patents Court and the English Patents Court. The patent involved in the case, the latest parry in a spate of legal battles between the smartphone rivals, was for a communication network terminal for accessing the Internet.
"We remain confident that [ Nokia's patent portfolio] poses little threat to HTC," HTC said in a statement.
Nokia said it disagrees with the decision and is considering its options. It added that it has lawsuits against HTC pending on 30 other patents in Germany , the U.S. and the U.K.
On Monday, Nokia was able to block HTC's supply of microphone parts for its new flagship smartphone through a temporary injunction by an Amsterdam district court against supplier STMicroelectronics N.V.
