The reason it has taken so long is because at the time the technology was being developed it was still constantly changing just like the law. The patents were very broad and had to be made more specific and narrowed over time. Also why wait until you might ask? Well if you stole my IP in the 90's and the industry had not really taken off yet then it would not be worth your time. But if you took time to continue adding to the specificity and building as case by first filing against NCsoft in 2009 in which they settled, then you help solidify your case.
