That is not going to happen in an academic environment. Research is contained but available to the team. Discussed regularly, evaluated, etc.

Thorpe was a great teacher, as many claimed and wrote in his obituary, and his research is owned by the UTSW and available to the team. A new lead will be assigned (if it hasn't been done yet) and things will move on.

You'll miss a brilliant mind, an great person and a lot of experience. The lost experience will be made up for by the eagerness of all others to prove themselves able to carry Thrope's legacy!
