I guess we both must have about the same age as Dr. Thorpe at his passing.
I see no reason to overly worry about it. In my past 40 Y of business experience , we have had close cooperation with research labs and university spin-off companies. I have seen many leaders go for multiple reasons and in the majority of the cases there were younger people to replace them and continue their work, be it sometimes with different approach, with vigor and enthusiasm.
