Agreed - in my case I barely survived (C minus grades) college-level physics,... and all power/signal functions are distance-based with the expectation that with increasing distance from an energy source the percieved power of that source decreases.
So,... saying that signal strength and distance are not inextricably tied together is poppycock.
They Judge either doesn't want to understand the physics involved, or doesn't care to bother to understand the physics involved. Any jury would get it,.... and there are any number of High-School level physics excercises that could be used to educate a jury as to the sillyness of separating the two ideas.
Here's hoping an appeal is filed,... otherwise - personal lost money aside here - its a travesty being made of our Patent system.
