It is basic good business to price the products you sell directly to consumers online higher.

Many retailers demand that. Why would a retailer buy your products for their store when consumers can order them online for same price, or less, than they can sell them for? You would potentially take sales away from your primary source of business and many of them would not stock your products because of it. Very simple to understand.
