No, that's just Americans in general.
The point is, they believe what they are told if unfamiliar with an emotionally neutral topic, then they react in groupthink, believing if YOU believe it, and they can relate to YOU, then THEY presume it to be so. They don't ask proper questions and they don't investigate ANYTHING!
It's a daily ocurrance on the P&M and Simply Politics boards from both sides.
I wouldn't suspect most would know what dihydrogen monoxide is unless they knew how to break down the key elements of the words themselves.
Di means two, hydrogen, mon short for mono - means one, oxide anything that has been oxidized = removes electrons from another reactant. In this case, hydrogen.
Two Hydrogen, One Oxygen H2O
This is BASIC chemistry. People walk about in a state of daze, doing and reacting ONLY what they are programmed to do. There is no independent though behind it. No self-assessment. No broader effort.
It's pretty insane, really.
