The idea is debatable. I have heard that the sell orders have to be within a certain percentage of the current spread average to have any effect on locking the shares from short sale.

Not sure on that one, tbh.

So you're telling me that if everybody who bought shares simply put in a sell order for, like, $6 a share, then the short-sellers would be out of luck? If that's the case, why doesn't everybody just do that and make the price go up? (or am I being too optimistic here...)
