It would be nice to have every corner store that had KOMA in their cooler was in a data base


The distributor has all of that information. Distributors also use EDI to communicate with other business partners using industry standards. They know exactly where every product was placed, how much and when. BBDA probably just picks up the phone and asks instead of being electronically integrated so of course they're not going to know where it all is.
