The Grizzly Dinner Bell Theory
Firing a hunting rifle has been compared to ringing a grizzly bear dinner bell.
Bears learn that the gut piles left by hunters are easy sources of high protein.
The grizzlies have learned to zero in on gunshots as a dinner bell.
As you field dress the animal, you need another hunter to watch your back.
Your hunting weapon is powerful enough to kill a grizzly you are stalking,
but when you the hunter becomes the hunted by a charging grizzly you need
something quite different to drop it in its tracks, especially as few hunters
have the guts to react calmly to a charging grizzly.
