brokerage firms short sell penny stocks to their clients (when you place a buy order) when shares are not available. I am a victim to this and I have evidence! I purchased shares of a sub-penny stock in Oct. 2012 and the next day may account was red flagged and said I had to cover my position in a week. I sold for a loss because I knew the sub-penny stock was going lower due to the stock manipulation and it did dramatically.
