SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov 17, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Redback Networks Inc.
(NASDAQ:RBAK), a leading provider of next-generation broadband networking
systems, today announced that PowerCom Network Hong Kong Ltd. was a winner in
this year's InfoWorld 100 Awards for its broadband over power line (BPL)
deployment built on Redback's SmartEdge(R) Service Gateway.

The annual InfoWorld 100 Award honors the most influential IT projects of 2005
and recognizes those projects that demonstrate the most creative use of
cutting-edge technologies to further business goals. For more information about
Redback's BPL rollout for PowerCom, please visit InfoWorld online at

PowerCom selected the SmartEdge platform to deliver high-performance broadband
services to Hong Kong subscribers via existing power lines. Using power lines as
a distribution network along with the SmartEdge Service Gateway, PowerCom is
able to achieve broadband intelligence, aggregation and management in one
device. Today, PowerCom is taking advantage of the resilience, reliability, and
scalability of the SmartEdge platform as subscriber numbers and bandwidth
requirements grow dramatically.

"We are delighted that our customer PowerCom has been honored with the InfoWorld
100 Award," said Marco Wanders, chief marketing officer at Redback Networks.
"PowerCom's broadband over power line service is a truly innovative initiative
and we are thrilled that the SmartEdge platform is going to support
sophisticated next-generation services like IPTV and video-on-demand for
subscribers in Hong Kong."

PowerCom plans to offer IPTV and video on demand through their BPL network, as
well as use Redback's subscriber management capabilities to provide personalized
broadband services to customers who were previously unable to receive service.
Redback's SmartEdge combines advanced broadband aggregation and subscriber
management functionality with IP edge routing for PowerCom to enable
next-generation service delivery.

"IT departments continue to learn hard lessons about business realities and
realistic ROI," said Eric Knorr, InfoWorld's executive editor at large. "The
InfoWorld 100 provides a forum for IT managers to get the recognition they
deserve for smart projects from an audience of their peers."
