Sure we are making profits but Geithner himself said it is wrong for private equity to benefit from the government guarantee

Maybe I agree with that, but what you (and Geithner) may be missing is that the relationship was not devised by us. Instead, it was sold to us to fix their books. Now they want to eat the cake and have it too by ignoring the equity they sold it to in the first place.
