Bankshot - When I used to call on buyers at large supermarket chains for a snack food company, we had to compete for the buyer's attention against thousands of other vendors. The buyer is the gatekeeper to the store chain. It goes like this:

Initial appointment with buyer (bring samples)
Follow-up phone call

Follow-up phone call...
Second appointment with buyer (bring samples)
Follow-up phone call

Bring district sales manager and take buyer out to lunch
Follow-up phone call

Offer special promotional pricing
Follow-up phone call

Take buyer out to lunch again
Follow-up phone call
Follow-up phone call
Follow-up phone call...
BINGO!!! Phone call from buyer requesting to add our product to their shelf.
