LONDON (Dow Jones)--France would be willing to join a likely military action against Iraq if chemical or biological weapons were used by Saddam Hussein's regime, France's ambassador to the U.N. said Tuesday, according to the BBC.
Use of such weapons would change the situation "completely and immediately for the French government" Jean-Marc de la Sabliere said, according to the BBC.
Such a move would be a dramatic reversal for France which has steadfastly opposed military action against Iraq and threatened to veto any U.N. Security Council resolution authorizing force against Baghdad.
