Maryland Delegate Introduces Measure To Legalize Marijuana
“A state lawmaker in Maryland has formally introduced a bill that would make smoking marijuana legal.
Del. Curt Anderson of Baltimore introduced the measure in the House yesterday. It would make marijuana legal for adults 21 and over and create a system to regulate and tax it, much the same way that alcohol is regulated and taxed.
The measure would also direct the Maryland Controller to license marijuana resale stores, wholesale and testing facilities.
The bill would create an excise tax of $50 per ounce on wholesale sales, and direct proceeds would go towards programs to prevent alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse.
Similar measures saw approval in Colorado and Washington state last year.”
