I don't think Bernanke wants to let go because he knows what the consequences of allowing an artificially inflated market drift. Everyone has been betting on higher markets solely due to the Fed actions. And there's a lot a stake. If they let go, it will be difficult to regain control. The global economy really is a bunch of dominoes and some of those dominoes a very unstable (in large part due to CB interventions). The Fed has no exit strategy and the markets will make it difficult for the Fed to exit. That is especially true when sequestration is allowed to be implemented.
