I can ALSO believe SMT is about to become the only dealer for DLA. Distributors that believe testing is the cure all (and certainly isn't cheap), when studies have discounted that and uniform between testing labs doesn't exist and won't become standardized for many more years, are kidding themselves, just like they're kidding themselves they know they've never handled a counterfeit part (yet they say it happened when counterfeits were mixed in from returns). Supposedly, their League has spent $$$Millions and more than 5 years looking for solutions, and the best they could come up with is at least another 5 years out for becoming tolerable, let alone it can't work with cyber thieves and cyber terrorists who inject sleeper software that won't be detected with just electrical standard tests, and WILL find a way to break into the lack of traceability of receiving a package purported straight from an OEM.
In the meantime, Dept of the Army at Belvoir, is working their own DNA tracking method, which will work in house, can't be used for commercial use such as parts manufacturers or distributors.
