Tinroad, ID3 v2 tags simply provide more data fields and are more useful for desktop applications. Most of the extra fields you wouldn't need much on a portable. But I know the iPod supports v.2 tags because under "Browse" music from the main menu, you can choose to "Composers" and it lists all the tracks that have that tag data. The Composer field is a v.2-only data field. It's really nice feature for Classical music because there is much more information beyond the simple Artist/Album/Title. With Ipod and Zen you can search for songs by a number of methods, by title, artist, album, genre, etc.. It's a powerful feature that Odyssey lacks. Every player I've seen in the last few years supports at least ID3 v1 tags to display basic Artist/Album/Title information. Except e.Digital products of course.

"Austonia, just for clarification, when you refer to ID3 tag support, are you referring to the original ID3, ID3v1.1, or ID3v2? Also, how common is ID3v2 support among the players you have tested?"
