for starters carbon black is just carbon. that's why they don't call it carbon hydrogen

so if you crack a C2H4 ethylene molecule into methane (as you used for an example) you get C1H4 which is methane and C1 which is carbon black

u can draw a similar scenario to make any hydrocarbon chain of fuel backing out the excess carbon as carbon black. it doesn't need to bond with oxygen expecially in an environment where there is no oxygen
