I wonder if Garnick, when he said "I know when to kill a drug" (or something along that line) actually wanted to kill Avastin at the time because he knew the problems that are surfacing now, mainly safety or low efficacy :), were there or to be expected and that that may helped him to jump ship and join Peregrine.
