Hmm... main ATA bottleneck opens a little. The new WD Raptor(SATA) is pretty impressive! A little expensive for the capacity, but when you take into account the construction and speed... It's whipping a good number of SCSI drives! Storagereview is an excellent storage site, just choose a test and press sort and you'll get an easy to read graph. They know a lot more about HDs than any other site I've seen. The full review was of a beta unit, but they updated the database with the new production unit data as well. Spokes, you may find this interesting, with your current situation.
