Of all the awards Steven Spielberg has won, the one he said he prized most is a pocket knife he won when he was a young Eagle Scout, and carried with him every day...The story he told was his Scout Troop was in competition for the best action picture and when he asked his dad if he could use the family's Brownie camera his dad said it's being repaired...so Steven decided to use the family's movie camera for a 3-minute action film and since he grew up in AZ, it was a cowboy action film. His 3-minute film won the prize, a pocket knife with the troop name and date...and that event began his interest in film making.
Sadly, Steven Spielberg lost his Eagle Scout pocket knife while filming LINCOLN in Richmond/Petersburg last year.
