Well, the average American's salary has remained pretty much flat over the years, if I'm not mistaken, but government employees work harder, so they deserve a bump? Screwing over the average Joe is after all a 24/7 job :)

I like to think of regular people as oranges that need to be squeezed to the last drop.

Edit: as for the media, aren't they just too busy loving this mess and the extra viewers/readers? Everybody wins in this game.
