I've read some posts/articles that suggest that iPod mini sales are cannibalizing sales of the full-sized iPod, but even after my visit to the Apple store today I'm not so sure that's the case.

At the store the only minis which were availble were the 64GB black, with cell access. The full-sized ones were available across-the-board.

One can interpret things a couple of ways (at least): 1) cannibalization, or 2) insufficient mini supply.

Knowing that the mini has at its core the iPad 2, I question the cannibalization angle, unless it's a new Apple customer - and bringing a new customer in the door is never a bad thing.

As for existing iPad users, why would one want to go backward in capability - and would a iPad 2 user get a smaller version of what they have rather than a new iPad? I don't know.

Of course, sometime this year I have no doubt that Apple would put out a more powerful mini - leading to even more sales.

Comments appreciated.
