if you are the one holding the gun, you are definitely in charge of who gets shot. (unless it is you who gets shot for playing Barney Fife with someone that is less hesitant than you to blow you away or is a better shot)

guns are most often used as intimidation in robbery situations... if someone accosted you with the intent of wanting to shoot you from the git-go, you would be dead before you even got your concealed weapon out. Escalating it by reaching for a gun and forcing the assailant to either shoot you or be shot himself means someone dies, and one of you becomes a statistic. Pulling a handgun out of your man-purse in front of a gun carrying thug is a good way to become a statistic.

Your John Wayne fantasies of getting the drop on someone that already has a gun out and pointed at you will make for a good obituary story for your family to remember you by.

Unless you dream of hypothetical situations where a gun would help, (and there are some, especially if you watch TV crime shows obsessively) i doubt your carrying will do much other than increase your odds of being killed. Or you will kill someone that isn't using lethal force like Zimmerman did. Keyboard hero talk is cheap.
